Child's jumper

child's jumper to knit Nola says:

I have knitted these two cuties by machine. However, I find it very easy to make up your own pattern because of the drop shoulder style to enhance the Opal wool's pattern.

You can use 3mm to 3.75mm needles, then work out your tension. (Ribbing done on smaller needles to stocking stitch).

Measure your child. The front and back are straight up and down and you can pop a tag of contrasting wool where the armhole begins. You can work out how many stitches to leave at the back neck by measuring. Leave these on a spare needle. Cast off the two shoulders loosely. Knit the front the same until you wish to begin the front shaping, leave approx 10+ stitches on a spare needles and decrease at neck edge the same number of stitches as you have left on the spare needle from the back. Cast off.

Sew up shoulders. Measure between the two tags and work out the total number of stitches you need at the top of the sleeve. Measure wrist to calculate the number of stitches needed to begin. Begin increasing at regular intervals to reach the sleeve top with the amount of stiches previously calculated. Cast off loosely.

2 year old's jumper Neckband, slip stitches from back neck onto a double pointed needle and pick up stitches as well as half the number of stitches on the spare neck needle. Using another double pointed needle slip the rest of the stitches from the centre neck spare needle and pick up the same number of stitches as you did on the other neck side. Knit until required length. Cast off loosely.

Sew up remaining seams and grin at yourself to see the grand jumper you've produced. The 2 year old size I knitted took 2 balls for both jumper, beanie and large pom pom. (Ruby the dog had her way with the pom pom!).

The beanie was made as per the pattern on the website.
