Susan's Opalicious Uni-Solid Lace Socks

MATERIALS:
One skein of OPAL UNI-SOLID YARN
One set of Circular needles or DPNS, in a size 0 or 1
One Blunt tip sewing needle

GAUGE: 8 to 9 stitches per inch.

CUFF: Cast on 68 stitches on size 0 or 1 needle and distribute evenly. Join stitches and work in a K1, P1 Rib for 2 1/2 ".

WORK LACE PATTERN AS FOLLOWS:
Row 1: K (on 1st row of 1st pattern set only, dec 1 st.)
Row 2: K1, * YO, SSK, K1, K2tog, YO, K1. Repeat from * around.
Row 3: K
Row 4: K1, * YO, K1, SL1-K2tog-PSSO, K1, YO, K1. Repeat from * around.
Row 5: K
Row 6: K1, * K2tog, YO, K1, YO, SSK, K1. Repeat from * around.
Row 7: K
Row 8: K2tog, * (K1,YO) twice, K1, SL1-K2tog-PSSO. Repeat from * to last 5 stitches: (K1, YO) twice, SL1-K1-PSSO.
Repeat this 8 row pattern until leg is 8" ending with row 8. K one round increasing 1 st on this round.

HEEL:
Using 34 st for heel and leaving 34 st on a spare needle, work heel as follows: Row 1: SL1 as if to purl, *K1, SL1. Repeat from * across, turn.
Row 2: SL1 as if to purl- P across, turn.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until heel flap is 2 1/2 " long.

TURN HEEL:
Row 1: SL1 as if to Purl, K 20, SSK, turn. Row 2: SL1 as if to Purl, P 8, P2tog, turn. Row 3: SL1 as if to Purl, K 8, SSK, turn. Row 4: SL1 as if to Purl, P 8, P2tog, turn. Repeat rows 3 and 4 until all heel stitches are worked and there are 10 heel stitches on needle.

HEEL GUSSETS:
K across 10 remaining heel stitches, pick up and K 17 st along right side of heel flap. K across 34 stitches of instep. Pick up and K 17 stitches along left side of heel flap. There are now 44 stitches on heel flap needle(s). and 34 stitches on instep needle(s).

DECREASE GUSSETS AS FOLLOWS:
Row 1: Work to last 3 St's from end of needle- K2tog, K1. Knit across instep needle(s). K1, SSK k to end of needle.
Row 2: K around.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until there are 34 stitches on heel needle(s).
Continue on with foot, knitting in the round until you are within 2" of desired length. Begin toe decreases.

TOE:
Row 1: Needle 1: K1, SSK - K across to last 3 stitches, K2tog, K1. Needle 2: Repeat needle 1.
Row 2: K
NOTE: knitter used 2 circular needles, if using DPNS adjust decreases in your favorite way...starting in center of heel or beginning of heel.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until there are 16 stitches left, 8 on instep and 8 on bottom. Graft the toe using the Kitcheneer stitch.
