Veteran and Vintage Motor Vehicles
|
|
Cars are included in the Veteran category if they were manufactured prior to 1919 , while Vintage cars are considered to be those made between 1919 and 1931. Cars manufactured between 1931 and 25 years prior to the current year are generally called Historic or Classic Vehicles although sometimes the Classic category is kept for vehicles of a "special" or limited production line. Some Insurance companies rate cars manufactured later than 1931, but more than 50 years prior to the current date as "older classics". The classification of "old" is really in the eye of the beholder as what appears "old" to a 25 year old is often considered a current model car by older persons. There are many historical vehicle clubs around Australia and I would be surprised if there was not one near you. Clubs are either brand or manufacturer related, but sometimes they include all brands and relate to a district. Some are related to Cars, some to Motor Cycles while other accept any historical vehicle. Many clubs do not require members to even own an historical vehicle, but simply to have an interest in restoring or promoting the use and continuance of older vehicles. More information and Links to major clubs will be listed on the Vintage Car page.
Veteran and Vintage Motor Vehicles incorporates a wide range of vehicles. From the very early (pre 1919) Veteran vehicles to Vintage vehicles, usually considered to be those more than 25 years old. This takes us from the early Steam days to recent times where we have had among the Classic vehicles, those which incorporate most of the luxuries we have in today's cars. We also have the Hot Rod group who specialise in the alteration of older vehicles into shining, super powered cars. The field is wide open to the individuals choice. You can spend as much or as little as you wish! There are Groups and Clubs for each type of classification and even for individual marques of vehicle.
Some of the classifications are listed below, but the list is endless :
Individual Marques of vehicles, e.g. Humber, Austin, Ford, Holden, M.G., Sunbeam, Mercedes etc.
Some Groups concentrate on Race Cars and Bikes
Where I can find them I have included Hyperlinks on the Above Items to provide more information for those with specific interests. Due to limitations on my I.S.P. Web space I have to limit the size of these pages, but I have included Links to enable those with interests in the History in this Hobby to have further reading and I have also provided Links to Australian and a few overseas groups. All of these provide further Links. The internet is a great source of information. Happy Surfing!
There are various Rallies held by local Car Clubs and Motoring organisations throughout the country. These include major Rallies , such as the Bay to Birdwood and I have included links to some of these. If you have an interest in this hobby, you will find "starter information" on local Clubs etc in magazines such as "Antique Cars" and the "Just Cars" and "Just Bikes" group or just use your Internet Search Engines.
If you want something a little more exciting , have a look at the Off Road Racing Site.
