Automatic Weather observation and Reporting  

Amateur observers throughout the world provide Automatic and Manual Weather observations of normal and hazardous weather on a global basis. This information is collated, stored and disseminated by several organisations through mediums such as Amateur  Radio and the Internet for numerous users including maritime, aviation and community  groups. Various automated systems and  computer software are continually modified and improved by these amateur groups.

Internet information from the Australian Bureau of Met. is readily available . This site will provide statistical information on Climate averages for various parts of  Australia as well as Weather Forecasts for various areas and locations around the country. Aeronautical forecasts are also available from this site. Sites are also available that provide current weather at many locations. Some also include Web Cam pictures of the local area. For example Gympie Qld. current weather with Web Cam viewing .

There are many different programmes available on the Web  for interfacing various Amateur Weather Reporting Stations to a computer. Most of these are Shareware or purchase items. One product in common use for the WM918/WM200 Weather Station is "FreeWx", which as the name implies is Freeware and is produced by Andy Keir for personal use. There are many WM918/WM200 systems in use for Amateur reporting to the Web and using the APRS Amateur Radio system throughout the world. The program stores data on the computer in various formats that allow easy access and statistical data presentation using popular Spreadsheets. It also provides Graphical displays of recent weather and provides interfacing for Web Cams and  uploading data to Web Pages.   .

Hazardous Weather observation and Reporting:

Some groups specialise in observing hazardous weather. This can range from the Tornado Reporting often seen on T.V. to  photographing Thunderstorms , Dust Devils in inland Australia and violent seas. The list is endless. Good examples can be found at :
